Rebel Books

Just gone to university? Living in an eco-commune squatted in a Port Promise warehouse? Joined a secret club, which meets in cafes to talk about progress and collective struggle? Opening a bookshop dedicated to spreading the revolutionary ideal – with a hidden door, leading to a basement filled with subversive materials?

Then you probably need some new books!

Rebel Books: Series 1 is a collection of 11 readable books for Sim insurrectionists, radicals, and troublesome thinkers.

Each book comes with:

  • A quote from the book as a description
  • A custom thought balloon
  • A cover, either replicating the best-known edition in Simlish, or of my own design.
  • Books are a little cheaper than their EA equivalents, because they have been published by a revolutionary press intending to distribute them affordably.

Skill Books

Gardening

A Declaration from the Poor Oppressed People of England (1649) – Gerrard Winstanley

Baking (GET TO WORK EP)

The Conquest of Bread (1892) – Peter Kropotkin

Mischief

The Anarchist Cookbook (1971) – William Powell

Charisma

Are Prisons Obsolete (1981) – Angela Y. Davis

The Communist Manifesto (1848) – Karl Marx & Friedrich Engels

Cooking

Recettes de La Marmite (1871) – Eugène Varlin

(My friend requested a book relating to the Paris Commune, so this is an imagined book by one of the participants – who was a bookbinder! – and ran a co-op restaurant which distributed food to those in need)

Emotion Books

Confident

Whipping Girl (2007) – Julia Serano

What White People Can Do Next (2021) – Emma Dabiri

Sad

Capitalist Realism (2009) – Mark Fisher

Inspired

Acid Communism – Mark Fisher

(unpublished at the time of Fisher’s death, but this is my imaginary world, so I’m going to make it the way I want it. This book is very expensive because it has been taken from a parallel dimension in which it exists.)

General Books

Les Miserables (1862) – Victor Hugo

Sociology Bookcases

To accompany my Rebel Books: Series 1 readable books, I wanted a set of bookcases which would place the books in the library. A second package contains library bookcases for Willow Creek, Britchester and Windenberg libraries. Just delete one bookcase from the library of your choice, and place a matching bookcase in its place.

BASEGAME: Willow Creek

Library Bookcase > Library Case: Sociology ($300)

UNIVERSITY: Laurel Library

Mortimer’s Secret Bookcase > Secrets Case: Sociology ($1900)

GET TOGETHER: Quad Manor

Endless Wonder on a Shelf > Wonder Case: Sociology ($1700)

HOW TO USE

Just delete one of the library bookcases and put in the matching CC equivalent. This will add the Rebel Books S1 to the library’s inventory. They will be available from all shelves, and NPCs will autonomously take them and read them.

(Which is pretty neat, although honestly it works a lot better for the University library than for Willow Creek which is, surely, too provincial to have such a well-stocked radical literature shelf? Maybe Willow Creek Library has one particular librarian who keeps ordering them…additionally, and unfathomably, the Quad Manor bookcases can’t be found in the catalogue in a colour that matches. So these are close but not perfect; if anyone can solve this for me, I’ll do an update)

Thanks to MizoreYukii for help with editing the missing textures, although ultimately I decided to go with no decoration on the shelves.
