One in sixty-eight children in the US has been diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder, meaning that instead of being a friend of a friend of a friend who knows someone with autism now it is frequently a person’s child, or a niece or nephew, or a friend’s child. In addition, adults who were left undiagnosed as children of the previous generation are frequently finding themselves diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders.
